Revolution, on Sesame Seed Bun

January 31, 1990. Of the billions and billions of burgers sold by McDonalds, the most important were sold in Pushkin Square in 1990. The cold war was over. Democracy takes home the victory, with a side of fries. For those that grew up during the cold war, this moment was emblematic. We would posit that we are gobbling our way toward another tipping point and once again McDonalds and other fast food makers are in the middle. We’ve got the Impossible Whopper and now, the McPlant.

Again, this was unimaginable just a short time ago. If you stop and think — which we so seldom do, I mean who has time? — it’s a monumental shift. A shift made not because of any particular virtue on the part of McDonalds, but rather, it’s What The People Want. In 1990 The People stood in line for Not-Communism. In 2020, The People Want not-Meat. And we would argue that this mainstream acceptance is more indicative of a large trend than say, eco-conscious suburban dads driving electric Audis, or an increase in kale consumption among bearded hipsters. Not that that the E-Tron and @dirtcandy isn’t frickin awesome! All good. Francis & Crew, out.
